Quality control from bean to pack

Quality Assurance

At Douwe Egberts we are very proud of our reputation for producing great tasting, high quality coffees. We have rigerous quality control checks in place at every stage of the coffee production & packing process.

The Tasting Room

Before a batch of green coffee is sent to the roasting house, our Master Blenders sample it in our tasting room. Each batch is judged on it's apperance, roast & grind & at the end of the tasting they are given a quality coding. Our Blenders keep detailed descriptions of each batch, noting the colour or moisture content for example. This way they can blend beans together to ensure you get the same great Douwe Egberts taste everytime.

During Production

As each batch of coffee can vary, our coffee experts will make adjustments throughout the roasting & grinding process. Samples are also taken at regular intervals to be tasted, to ensure a constant taste & quality.

Packing

Once roasting & grinding is completed the coffee is packed into the distinctive Douwe Egberts 'bricks'. This vacuum pack ensures the coffee is airtight, sealing in the coffee aroma so you get the freshest taste when you prepare it at home.

Final QC Checks

The final quality control is to ensure all the packs are airtight & there are no 'leakers'. Once this is complete, the packs stacked onto pallets, then start the journey from our factory in Belgium to our stores here in the UK.
